More kids than ever feel worried, stressed out, and anxious every day. Their parents and teachers may not know—because kids don’t want to talk about it, or they don’t know how to put their worries into words.

Their “secret stress” surfaces as stomachaches, headaches, fatigue, trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, and an inability to concentrate. These and other stress-related symptoms can have a negative effect on school performance, family life, and friendships.

From the best-selling authors of True or False? Tests Stink!, this book is a helping hand for kids and an eye-opener for adults. Reassuring words, silly jokes, and light-hearted cartoons let kids know they’re not the only worry-warts on the planet—and they can learn to manage their stress.

A “What, Me Worry?” section describes the causes of stress and its physical and emotional effects. “How to Be a Panic Mechanic” gives kids ideas for dealing with stress and being stronger and more assertive.

Upbeat, positive, fact-filled, and friendly, this is the book on stress for kids and young adolescents.

In today's world, finding stress relief can be hard. Many people are on the go from early in the morning until late at night and are under pressure to stay on schedule. Your health and ability to enjoy life will suffer if you can't keep stress under control. Here we will discuss some tools to help you with stress relief.

Breathing more slowly and deeply is a fast way to reduce stress. Breathing naturally gets shallower when we feel stressed and some people may even hold their breath. Aside from taking deep breaths in stressful situations, you can take this a step further by learning how to breathe in a deeper and more relaxed manner all the time. There are various books and classes that focus on breathing and yoga can also teach you how to breathe more deeply. This also has the added benefit of improving your overall health by delivering more oxygen to your body.

Making time to have fun is one of the best ways you can manage stress. Many people think they don't have time for fun, and that this isn't part of being a responsible adult, but the fact is you need a balance between work and play or stress will build up and you won't be functioning at your best. Find simple activities that you enjoy such as playing with your pet, or going for a bike ride. Make sure you take short breaks during the day to have fun. This way, when you return to your serious activities, you can have a fresh perspective.

Taking part in creative activities can be a great way to relieve stress. You don't have to an artist or musician to be creative because everyone has some areas where they can express their creativity. The point is to focus on something other than your problems, so you don't have to try to produce professional quality work. Drawing, cooking, gardening, or working with clay are all creative outlets. You don't have to be great to get the benefits but you may enjoy it more if you take lessons or join a weekly group.

During your lunch break, also take a break from your cell phone. We may not want time away from our devices, but we need that time to reduce our stress level. In conclusion, it's not so important how you find stress relief as long as you have some way that's effective for you. Many methods can help reduce your stress because the key is to focus on something positive, or at least neutral, instead of on your problems. Many people have found the above techniques helpful for reducing their stress and with some thought, you may come with more of your own.

Being "so stressed" has to be the most common description for a woman today -- no matter your age or marital status, whether you have a career or work inside the home. Stress is the gift of modern life that keeps on giving, because, even after you've gotten through a stressful day or week, the effects on your body and mind linger, whether you're aware of them or not. And they can build up and make you sick -- unless you do something to stop them. That's where So Stressed, a landmark new guide to women's health, can help.

The realization that stress was the most common cause of all the different symptoms and ailments that their patients were coming to them for was a eureka moment for internationally renowned OB-GYN physicians Stephanie McClellan and Beth Hamilton. To find out how stress could be the root cause of diseases as disparate as chronic pain, gynecological disorders and depression, asthma and metabolic disorders, Drs. McClellan and Hamilton embarked on a unique medical quest -- they wanted to find the latest discoveries emerging around the world in the science of stress and put them all together in treatments to help their patients now. Their urgent mission took them to the leading researchers at the best medical centers around the world, where they learned the exciting findings that they reveal in this fascinating new approach to women's health, So Stressed.

With information from the medical and psychological sciences of stress that no other practicing physician or clinician has implemented, So Stressed shows you what stress is doing to every cell in your body, how it disrupts the intricate balance of your body's systems, and most important what you can do, starting today, to restore your body's health and prevent yourself from getting sick. Drs. McClellan and Hamilton -- who are widely sought after for their compassionate manner and educational approach to their patients -- have treated more than 16,000 women in their shared three decades of medical practice. Through their timely research and unique, integrative approach to patient care, they have developed four groundbreaking stress types, each with unique patterns for potential illness and disease -- presented here for the first time -- that you can use to identify the ways that stress is affecting your body and mind.

Once you know your unique stress profile, the doctors help you learn new ways to see and respond to stress, reduce it and its effects on your body, and even prevent the life-threatening illnesses it causes. You'll find the right program -- specifically designed for the way you fit into your stress type -- with prescriptive advice for the best mental relaxation techniques, nutrition, exercise, and restoration practices for you. Filled with instructive and inspiring case stories from their patients' and their own life experience, Drs. McClellan and Hamilton bridge the gap between the lab bench and the bedside in this comprehensive program for total health. (Order Your Copy Today)

Oftentimes, we get stress because we cannot express what we feel. Stress is a sign that we still haven't overcome depression, pressure, anxiety, fear or guilt. Stress affects a lot of people. That is why we should find a way to get rid of stress. Though keeping stress away is not that easy, there are ways you can count on to get away from strains.

Below are Strategies in Managing Stress:

1. Sleep. Having enough sleep (6 to 8 hours a day) is essential in relieving stress. It is an important factor in everyone's life.

2. Listen to tunes. Listening to your preferred music particularly to soothing and energizing songs is often a great way of getting rid of tension.

3. Make a diary. Your journal will serve as your extremely best friend. It is actually one technique of letting your feelings go and will make you feel relieved.

4. Be inventive. Use craft in showing your feelings. It may possibly be within the kind of poetry, prose, or painting. You can also try writing your personal song.

5. Stroll at the park. Seeing the nature soothes us and gives us peace of mind.

6. Talk to a person you'll be able to rely on. Your relatives and buddies will usually be there to ease and support you no matter what problems you encounter.

7. Read. Use your time by studying. It's going to consume your cost-free time as well as it will widen your knowledge. This is a double benefit. You can find books about life which you can relate with and you will also find books for strain relief.

8. Exercise. Visit health clubs. Care about your physical fitness. Do activities like swimming, jogging as well as other sports you may try.

9. Hang out together with your family members and friends. Surely it is going to be a great deal of entertainment. Remember, laughter is the finest natural medicine for stressed people today.

10. Drink hot milk or hot chocolate before going to bed. It will make you feel relaxed and give you a good sound sleep.

11. Make your own holiday. Keeping away from your stressful task for just a day may also enable you to relax. Make use of the day to unwind. Watch a film and eat what you like.

12. Consult a counselor or a psychologist. This is highly recommended for individuals who suffer from severe strain. You can certainly be illuminated after listening to their recommendations.

13. Be charitable. Charitable acts can make someone feel good. Helping others will always make you feel that you are worthy.

Stress is a part of our lives. Though we cannot possibly keep stress away forever, we can still find ways in coping it.

It’s practically the watchword of modern American life. We all know we should learn to manage it. We know that it can shorten our lives, age us prematurely, make us fat.

We know it can cause a host of physical and psychological problems, from heart disease to impotence—but we all seem to keep suffering from it. One more thing we all know is that, ultimately, we are responsible for reducing the stress we experience each day.

This little book offers ten simple solutions any of us can use to make this important change once and for all.

Based on positive psychology, mind-body medicine, and cognitive behavioral therapy, the ten solutions in this book take stress management to an unprecedented level of effectiveness.

26 of 27 people found the following review "Speaking as a psychologist..." helpful:

As a practicing psychologist, I've read a lot of self-help books on stress reduction. This one is different and better. Cutting edge medicine, cognitive therapy and practical coping strategies are combined into concise chapters that do not have to be read in sequence. The questionnaires give you a quick way to increase your self knowledge, and the strategies for coping are practical and time-efficient. (Bonnie B. Comfort)

Review paraphrased for size — view original review here.

These short assessments, lifestyle enhancement tips, and emergency stress rescue techniques help you to cope effectively with stress and to reduce its frequency in your life.

More than just lowering blood pressure and being generally happier, the techniques in this book can lead you to physical wellness and foster a greater sense of purpose, joy, and fulfillment.

In 1990, Jon Kabat-Zinn revolutionized the way millions of people handle distressing thoughts and feelings by writing Full Catastrophe Living, the book that introduced mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) to the public for the first time. In A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook, mindfulness experts Bob Stahl and Elisha Goldstein adapt Kabat-Zinn's groundbreaking program into an accessible workbook format. Readers turn to this book to gradually improve their ability to relieve intense stress and reconnect with the present.

The workbook invites readers to participate in formal and informal practices and use fill-in exercises to reflect and track their progress. After each weekly session, readers can apply the techniques they learned that week into everyday life, gradually learning to replace stress-promoting habits with mindful ones. The audio CD bound with this book offers extensive and helpful supplemental material that readers can listen to anytime to receive a refresher course on MBSR techniques and useful guidance for incorporating these techniques into their days.

"Bob Stahl and Elisha Goldstein have done a great job in making the art of mindfulness and its cultivation through MBSR practices accessible to a public readership at a time when interest in both is rising exponentially in our society due to the increasing stress and speed and anxiety of our lives. A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook will be a valuable resource for all those wishing to develop and / or deepen an embodied practice of mindfulness to heal body and mind, and to restore a degree of sanity, balance, and delight to their lives and relationships."

Wow! This book is simply a must-read. It is chock-full of excellent tactics, ideas, and strategies for changing one's life by learning to cope with the complexities of daily living.

Leyden-Rubenstein lays out an extensive body of scientific knowledge about stress and its effects on health in a clear, direct and highly readable way, but this book offers much, much more. She intertwines this scientifically-based information to support a spiritual approach to living, focusing on self-knowledge, understanding ,and compassion.

A strategy-filled handbook to understand, manage, and conquer your own stress.

Anxiety disorders-grouped into three main categories: panic, generalized anxiety, and social anxiety-are among the most common and pervasive mental health complaints.

From the subtlest effect of sweaty palms during a work presentation to the more severe symptom of reclusion, anxiety casts a wide net.

Medication, once considered the treatment of choice, is losing favor as more and more sufferers complain of unpleasant side effects and its temporary, quick-fix nature.

Now, thanks to a flood of fresh neurobiology research and insights into the anatomy of the anxious brain, effective, practical strategies have emerged allowing us to manage day-to-day anxiety on our own.

56 of 57 people found the following review helpful:

It is a fascinating read from beginning to end. I came to it not really caring why or how my brain was making me anxious- I just knew I wanted to stop how I was feeling. In fact, the most interesting part of the book is explaining how and why your brain causes your anxiety. Far from being a dry medical monologue of terminology and bio-chemistry, the information and the way it was presented was more like watching a fascinating documentary on Discovery Health. The information is solid and presented in a passionate and entertaining way (without dumbing anything down either, I might add) which says something for the author's talent and style.
Addressing physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms, Margaret Wehrenberg, a leading mental health clinician, draws on basic brain science to highlight the top ten anxiety-defeating tips.
